Aquiring plants

Hi All,

I have very little experience growing plants, in fact I'm surprised the one I have is still alive!

I plan on getting many more because they make the tank look so awesome.

So does anyone of you experienced hobbyists in the Sydney area grow and sell plants that grow in lowish light (I only have a single 4' fluro tube for my 4' tank), or know of fish shops that sell them fairly cheap?

I checked out my LFS but $15 for a tiny java fern seemed a bit pricey (then again, I could be wrong...maybe I just undervalue plants???)

Cheers,

I think that even one 4' is good for most of the plants if it has right spectrum. I use "Power-Glo" and have no problems, although I don't have anything fancy. I throw away heaps of plants when I clean my tanks. Which area you are? I could give you some.

Have a look on the internets for 'anubias' species.

There are attractive, hardy and will grow in low (or high) light.

There are quite a few species with a range of differing leaf sizes.

I'd love a bit of Java fern if anyone is throwing some away!!! Willing to pick it up from anywhere between Sydney and Newcastle!! ...after Ads has got his share of course ;-)

Does it always look as straggley as what they sell in my lfs in Newcastle??

regards,

Michael
