I bought this little girl a week or so ago... she's only about

2cm....

She might be a spirullim.... but she might be a Cutteri... tell me what you think.

Look exactly like my spilurus, I have had them for a few years now.

Markings change considerably depending on the phase the fish are in, pre-spawning, spawning, raising fry etc.

The fish in the OP are definitely not what we have as spilurus.

Perhaps we have different localities?

Hey Fishguts.....

Did you buy a male?

No Mate... she was by herself in a tank with some

calvus i think.

I have another spirullum male and he won't even acknowlege her.

There are a few pics on the " american cichlids assosiation" that look alot like her and a male to go with her.

I will try and post some and show you what i mean.

The top two photos are from that site.

i wish i could take some better photos bu she is so bloody quick.

I remember the Qld Cichlid Club shipment when Herotilapia (Archocentrus) multispinosa (rainbow cichlids) were first imported into Australia......if only I knew what was in the future!

geez mate... i thought i was old :lol3: :lol3: :lol3: that would have been in the early 80"s

That big male of yours is a beauty. The red version is beautiful.

I ve just discovered a spawn of freeswimming Convict/sajicas buzzing around the bottom of the tank.

I wonder what they would look like ;)

I could tell a few of my asian friends that they are Dwarf Flowerhorns.... they could be the next big thing in Chinatown!!!

Come to think of it....if you mixed a spirullum with a sajica you might just get something that looks like my little one.

what do you think???

I remember buying a pair of Herotilapia multispinosa around 1976.So they have been around for a long time.

Hybrids should not be sold, use them for live food.It is getting harder to find many of the american cichlids that are pure strains.

We can't import them anymore so we need to protect what we already have.

I will probably upset someone here but flowerhorns should be treated like carp.Ground up & used for fertilizer.

I can only agree with ya mate....

They are in an 8x2x2 with about 70 other americans so i cant see em growing to any great size.

1976 ahh?? did they call em "Rainbow cichlids" then??

I doubt that they would have much chance of surviving in that tank.

It is only a problem when people start selling them.

I only knew them as multispinosa I don't know when they became rainbow cichlids.
