grungefreek
Hi Guys, Well ive just started up my new tank and was thinking of using salt in the water as a bit of a preventative for disease etc. Ive heard this is a good way to minimise disease etc, but i just had a few questions before i went ahead and did it. Ok so currently the tank contains gourami's and an Oto. So i just wanted to know how much salt per litre i should add, or if these species of fish will not tolerate any salt in the tank at all. Ok thanx Guys
YeW
Hi - I routinely use 5g of NaCl / 10 litres of water. However, no soft water fish should be given this. This may (and I'm not a catfish person) include oto cats. I'll move your post to the catfish forum for their input ! HTH -
grungefreek
Ok so the gourami will be fine with the salt, thought they would. So now the problem is the oto. I have read american boards that say both corys and oto's can stand salt, up to about 1 tablespoon per 2 gallons. But any thoughts from you guys before i start doing this.. Thanx
PHL
I salt my goldfish tank (probably 1 tablespoon per 20L); the Ottos are doing fine.
