barnesy
Gday guys I would love some Salvinia for my Arrowana tank. Does anyone know how id go about getting some?
SydneyMike
Alot of people still have it floating around their tanks, but it is a major pest, and declared noxious in at least some states, meaning it's illegal to buy, sell or keep. Duck weed or azolla might be another option
kurohige
Duck weed also declared noxious. Try floating water sprite, they grow differently from the emerse form.
SydneyMike
Is duckweed noxious? It's a native.
kurohige
It was classified noxious a few years ago as it took over the waterways. The rule may change now tho.
SydneyMike
There is advice on how to remove it in a weed guide linked to the dpi site on invasive plants, but it is not a declared noxious plant by the dpi, whose lists has things like elodea, salvinia, water hyacinth etc. Good point tho, native plants can be noxious in parts of Australia where they aren't indigenous. Only eg that springs to mind is hornwort in Tasmania, but I'm sure there are others. But duckweed is ok to keep

genetik_defekt
pretty sure duckweed is noxious in NT, WA only but could be wrong.
SydneyMike
You would just have to check on the websites of the relevant state departments of agriculture or whatever the equivalent. I don't think so tho, Aquagreen grows and sells duckweed in the NT.
