Tanganyika compatability

ok this is 2 compatability questions in 1

firstly is do you beleive that tropheus and Enantiopus / Xenotilapia (Sandsifters) would be compatible

secondly do you think that Cyathopharynx would be compatible with the Enantiopus / Xenotilapia

thanks Mark~

Hi

The first definitely not, even though they'll occupy different areas the tropheus are just too boisterous, unless the tank is massive.

The second maybe depending on tank size and type of xeno. Realise that they both use the bottom as their preferred range. The Cyathopharynx is very large and somewhat aggressive during spawning.

I wouldn't put in a flavipinnis in with a Cyathopharynx, they are too sensitive. I might try spilopterus or maybe an ochrogenys. You could try Enantiopus but I have heard they don't do well together, to be very successful with E. they need there own tank and space (lots of it).

If you outline tank size and decor I could be more specific, and try to give exact combinations as all xenos are different.

well i think id go more with enantiopus

the tank size would be either 6x2x2 or 6x2.5x2.5

depends what i get my hands on first

decor would be sand/ and rocks probably on each side of the tank then a large open area closer to the front and middle i wont put too many rocks because the only rock dwellers ill have would be 2 alto's from my current setup

so a little bit of rock on each side

it would have # cyathopharynx, # enantiopus, 12 cyprichromis, and 2 alto's

ok now i know what im going to have

because ive just sorted out the tank situation

ive just got a 6x2.5x2.5 on hold

and i really want to get some amazin colours going

and i would love to be able to mix featherfins with

the enantiopus

so im wondering if anyone would really be able

to tell me if the mix would end up being ok

because i mean if they stick to eachothers side of the tank i dont see

the problem?

feedback would be much appreciated

cheers Mark~

Hi Mark,

That is quite a large tank. I cannot speak from expeirence as I have never tried these two species together, only from what I have heard which is they are not the best mix.

In a tank that size I would try them though, even if you only have 1 male Cyathopharynx and a colony of Enantiopus.

Have you considered Callochromis? there are some nice ones about and they could easily handle the aggression of a Cyathopharynx.

Would you have a backup tank if things went sour with the Enantiopus? These are not that easy to get your hands on.

It would be a very nice tank with the Cyp's and altos.

yeh i want to go with a bit of a different mix from alot of what ive seen

i have a spare standard 4footer which is currently holding the fish i got

probably a bit small for the enantiopus

but yeh never thought about the callochromis

might have a look into it

but yeh i really would love to try the cyathopharynx and enantiopus

because they both would add so much colour to the tank

with the males always showing off haha

so yeh its a hard choice but yeh ill see how it goes

i guess i may aswell give it a go if i find them if it doesnt work

im sure id easily find someone to take them off my hands

cos i could easily go both ways get rid of the enantiopus or the

cyathopharynx
