Chester
David,You give us the impression that you must be a plant expert. Are you just being modest? :^:
YeW
Hi CTR -I'm not being modest , I'm being honest!. The plants I grow grow out of the water (not under it). I grow mainly south african ascelipiad succulents (Ceropegia, Stapelia's etc) I also dabble in carnivorous plants and grow a few Sarracenia's, some sundews and a venus flytrap. On the underwater front - I've never done particularly well - but I really admire a good planted tank . Chester
If you are into carnivorous plants then you must have liked the movie 'Little Shop of Horrors' when you were young. :D Hey, is there such a thing as an underwater carnivorous plant? YeW
Most carnivorous plants grow in bogs and swamps - were the soil is very poor in mineral nutrients (thus the need to be carnivorus).. in saying that though most do not grow under water. There are two aquatic genera of carnivorus plants (though I wouldn't recommend keeping them with your prized fry). Many members of the genus Utricularia are aquatic, as are Aldrovanda spp. Here's a link to the two of the from the fabulous Galleria Carnivora.Utricularia traps:http://www.sarracenia.com/photos2/uinfl05.jpgAldrovalda:http://www.sarracenia.com/galleria/g122.htmlCheers -

Daniel
Fantastic to have a dedicated planted site. I was also hoping for this ! Nothing that looks better than a freshwater planted tank.....well perhaps a reef tank comes close !
Magica DiSpell
Utricularia is one of my favourite species, it is just soooo interesting. Unfortunately, it doesn't grow too well in my tank. I think the tank probably is too well supplied with nitrates. The traps on my specimen were very tiny - just about non-existent. And now the plant has disappeared alltogether (might have something to do with a plant-eating cichlid). And Dave, thanks for yet another really interesting forum.
