What bug is this?

It is Eupoecila australasiae which is a member of the Scarabaeidae family (i.e. Scarab Beetles). They are also known as Fiddler Beetles and adults feed off the nectar of flowers after emerging from the soil in early summer.

yeah these little guys are really cool :thumb .....i found one once that had drowned in a horse trough and i carried it around for a good hour or two all the while it was stone dead....i put it on a table to dry out and after about half an hour it came back to life and started crawling around lol...after its effort to come back to life i couldnt bare to kill it and add to my collection...but the next one i find wont be so lucky :no:

The qld museum has a few of these in their collection and some have some really interesting patterns :thumb
