crazedv8fan
Hi All Newbie here. I breed bettas and have been given an Oscar from a mate who no longer wants to care for it (comes in handy for culls). He's about 3 yrs old, 8 inches or so. He has a couple of small holes in his head but the one that concerns me a little is in his right gill plate, about 5mm in diameter, you can clearly see the gill through the hole . The hole seems clean and now it's in clean water the fish seems fine. I was just wondering should I be worried about this hole, should I treat the fish with anything? Would it more than likely have been neglect that bought this about? Thanks. Brett
Anita_ozfish
Hi Brett and welcome to the SCP. I don't think I would worry about it too much if it doesn't worry the fish. He sounds like he has gone to a better home with you anyway. I have never heard of hole in the head going into the gill plate so who knows how he got it but if it doesn't worry him, I think it will be fine. See what happens, it may close up again over time.
