mickgibbo
Here are some pics of my latest purchase Lamprologus brevis Chaitika, They are just starting to color up in there new home. They are already starting to take territory over some shells. Quick question at what size do these guys breed??
Colfish
hi Michael these guys are of breeding size now, and more than likely have been breeding. they should go as soon as they settle into their new shell. are they on their own, or have other 'tank mates'? mickgibbo
At the moment they are with small peppermints which will be moved on shortly. The females are quite a bit smaller at this stage. How many babies do they usually have per brood.

novafishy
Thanks Mick, how many do you have and what size shells have u got? are your shells big enough for a pair of brevis to fit into the same shell? or just big enough for one? Cos i read somewhere that the shell needs to be big enough for a pair. not sure on that.

Males are about 5cm and females about 3 cm. ← can you separate the prs into separate tanks. 18" is ok 2ft is plenty. they're not an active fish, so they don't need a lot of space. just have a couple of shells per pr. the f/male will hide in the shell almost constantly, with the male standing guard. he will dart into the shell when he see's you, until he learns that you bring food. remember, they are wild caught, therefore it will take some time for them to become accustomed to aquaria, get them onto a live food, and use b/s flakes as a back-up it will "condition" them far quicker than any other prepared food. these guys are almost full grown. the f/male is smaller than the male [5cm/4cm] they usually have about 12 fry per spawn, though they can spawn in quick succesion if well conditioned' JMO & HTH. cheers;
mickgibbo
Great info, The only way that I can split them up would be to split divide the tank, do you think I should do that or just leave them all in the 4 footer??
