fishly
I am thinking of changing my flurocent lights with Metal halide. Does anyone know what is the minimum recommended distance between the glass of the light and the lid? By the way the balast is not located together with the bulb (remote control). ViS
Depends on the wattage of the MH, but anything smaller than a 12 inch gap is too close. I've seen them with a 6 inch gap, but the glass gets very hot. If you can build a hood that will give a 12-24 inch gap, all the better. You can apparently get cooler bulbs now that still provide similar light, but I don't know anything about them.
fishly
Thanks Andy. Seems I can't use my current hood as the gap is only 11cm . However, great to know that. Cheers, Tony
MollyMan
MH Pendants are the way to go... bang together a stand, and suspend them 1-2ft above the tank, they are very effective, and dont look too bad either... just like this...
