Bruce
I am going to be purchasing a second hand 6x2x2 and I plan to use a minireef. The tank isn't drilled and it would be a big hassle for my to get it done (cracking risks, getting there, picking up). Is there any way that a similar thing can be done without altering the tank in any way? Bruce
wui39
Internal overflow or hangon overflow would be your best bet. Always a risk of it not priming though. http://www.dursostandpipes.com/ Look under popular modifications and external overflow
dyclops
Drill it. I have fiddled with all types of non-drilled solutions. Basically: mircobubbles + algae respiration == wet carpet. The amount of time, money and effort I spent would have been better off buying the diamond bit and drilling it myself and taking the risk if it cracks. Ash
there are guys in the Sydney area who can come to you & drill it for a fee, so you don't have to move it around heaps
Simonauv
What about an overhead 'sump'? In the tank I'm currently building at work I'm also building a hood that will hide and support a shallow sump above the tank so a pump inside the tank will pump up into the 'top sump' and it will gravity feed back into the tank. It will be deep enough to house a heater and also have a safety mechanism built in for blackouts to stop all the water draining out so I don't burn out the heater.
