paulibius
I know it is possible to get silver arrowanas but is it possible to get reds and golds here in Australia. Thanks PAul
wui39
Sure is possible......if your willing to pay the money for them. Expect to be paying for a 15cm fish $800+ for a Green, between $3-5K for a red or gold.
paulibius
I would like to get some oneday to try and breed. It would be interesting. Do you think 580 is to expensive for silvers.
leungie
Def too expensive... can get great quality ones for 350-400 nowadays.. PM me if you want to get the number for the guy. (he's got the best silvers i've seen in Sydney) Cheers, James

hardb0iled
Just so you know, Asian Aro's(red's, golds, greens etc) are illegal in Aust
wui39
Correct me if I'm wrong but so are silvers. Illegal to import maybe but I don't think they are going to take them away if you already have them. Also rather silly to destroy them after all they are endagered in the wild. sharkbaitnemo
they are not noxious so they would not destroy them but if they can prove it was illegally smuggled into the country ie: the fish is micro chiped, then you will have to answer to a different set of charges. asian arows are no more illegal than silvers or even a common bristle nose. the fish has never been legal import so how they originally got into the country in the first place, nobody knows. no chance of breeding them here is Aus. maybe in the far north but otherwise it just does not stay hot enough here. otherwise you can expect a $10K plus quarterly power bill. believe me I have seen this is quite possible. wui39
Some of the illegal fish probably came in back in "the good old days" when AQIS weren't as strict on the import list. Of course this is while back now even before I was born so I can only speculate.
Momo
its also very unfair to say these fish are not breedable...i think this is not the case. Ponds is the most popular choice BUT not the only choice i have heard of a few accounts of tank bred aro, not in australia but its defineately do able. just needs patience and an initial investment $$$$$....
