catcher
G'day all, It may just be my imagination but the fine wool in my sump seems to be getting dirty quicker in the hot weather of late. Has anyone else found this? It seems the waste accumulating quicker and the layer is a more thickened consistancy. Any thoughts glenn
Cuong
My guess is that the increased heat has sped up the metabolism of your inhabitants and they're just processing alot more recently. Have you noticed feeding them a little more in the heat?
catcher
I haven't changed my feeding schedule, maybe I should back off the amount while the temps are up?
Ash
you haven't done something to change the currents in the tank have you? eg. add a powerhead, shift rockwork, re-aim sump return any of these could shift more of the crud that you usually vac up into the filter instead Other than that, SchmucK's metabolism theory makes sense - perhaps they've been into some algae on the rocks or something? Could they have snacked on a batch of fry without you knowing?
catcher
I could go with the fry theory, I've been a bit lazy of late and have had a few mouthfuls release in the community. I'll keep an eye on this as I know I have two Cobalts and a E yellow holding right now and about to release. One of the cobalts is holding a huge mouthfull. cheers glenn
GTR73
I 2nd the metabolism theory. I've heard this many times before and from my own experience my fry seem to grow quicker in a warmer tank.
cosmiccreepers
I 3rd the theory about faster metabolism and fry growing faster in warmer water. Since the weather has been really hot, i've noticed that my fry are alot more active, therefore alot more hungry, and therefore growing faster. Cheers, Cassandra.
