dan_thefish_man
Hey I am looking at buying a canister filter for my tank with Neolamprologus Brevis only. I am attempting to breed them and i was wondering if the canister filter would worry the fry? Would i lose my babies too quick? What would be a better option? Down the track a little i am looking at getting young Leptosoma Malasa as ditherers! Cheers
MSC
Hi, It really all depends how the tank is decorated, and the size of the fry. 1) A canister filter is fine with fry, provided you take some precautions, namely a closed cell sponge prefilter over the intake. This will prevent the fry from being sucked in. 2) Be wary of the flow from the outlet/spraybar, you don't really want so much current that the fry are getting thrown against the glass. Choose your canister wisely, don't select the largest you can find, some are quite powerful, and maybe too powerful for your intended use. Nearly every fish I have kept has enjoyed swimming against the current.
