Mazimbwe
Can anyone shed some light on this change and what has bought it about? In the past the A.baenschi varients(Maleri Gold, Benga and Chipoka) where grouped to gether under the one banner(Baenschi) but of late I have seen, more and more, refered to as Stuatgranti.I have seen this now on 3 seperate occasions and would dearly like to understand how an A.baenschi(Chipoka), that has been called such for a long, becomes an A.stuatgranti(Chipoka), seemingly, overnight??Any help will/would be appreciated. :

Auscanuckafishy
G'day,The change was a while ago, and can be found in Ad Konings "Malawi Cichlids In Their Natural Habitat 3rd Edition". Basically they aren't a stuartgranti as such, so calling them A. stuartgranti "Maleri" would be incorrect. They are now listed as a seperate undescribed species known as Aulonocara sp. "Stuartgranti Maleri" with the two most common forms being Maleri Island and Chidunga Rocks (Chipoka). There are other less common forms as well. Aulonocara baenschi "Nkhomo Reef" otherwise known as the "Benga" remains under the A. baenschi banner, along with a fish from another location, so the group has now been seperated.Mark
