Hi all, (maiden post on the new forum!)

I have a smallish colony of C. Aeneus in a 2ft tank, the tank has UG filter and large amounts of Java Fern. I have 3males and 3 females. I would like to clarify whether this is enough males for the amount of females or should i buy more?

Thanks in advance

Wazza,

What Alan means is your 1/2 dozen (3m:3f) will sort themselve out when spawning starts. The 3 males will go together and take turn with each female, the female will then decide the male to spawn with (hence they'll sort themselve out).

Having the ratio of 3m:3f is fine, my only concern is where are these from?

If they're from the same place, it would be best to add a pair or two pairs from other source(s). I've seen the effect of in-breeding in corydora and this is the last thing we need in the hobby (unless you're prepared to cull the defects).

Thomas.

Thomas,

Thanks for clearing that up for me i now understand completely.

Yes the fish are from the same place, i understand that this is bad for the hobby and i do plan to cull any defects so that the quality of c.aenues may remain good. Also i plan to buy more from different sources.
