Eaglebarret
I was looking at purchasing a uv sterilizer, i know they kill algae but will they stop worms, parasites etc from surviving in the tank?
DanceswithDingoes
On two conditions, one is you have the appropriate wattage and second is that the flow is sufficiently slow enough to zap the bugs. The was a brand from the USA a while ago that featured a spiral flow chamber and this helped maximise exposure to the light. Most UV's I've seen have been hanging off sumps run by a small powerhead. BTW they dont really eliminate all of the bugs just manage them so you dont have so many problems with them.
Eaglebarret
How does it work by being run with a power head?? i thought it had to be connected to a outlet tube of a canister? Is there any other way to run them?
DanceswithDingoes
Canisters are good because the water is mechanically cleaned and most cannisters have slow return rates. Many ppl just hang them off their sump with a small powerhead circulating the treated water back into the sump, like I said more of a control than an elimination process. If the flow is too fast the bugs dont get zapped.
