BlakeyBoyR
Hey guys. I've been looking at photos on the net of planted tanks and they all seem to use grasses or tiny little plants to completely blanket their substrate in green. Now, the only grass I have seen available in LFS in Sydney is hairgrass, which is notoriously hard to grow and has a tendency to fall apart and look dodgy after a month or so. So I was wondering if any of you could recommend a different blanket plant that can be purchased in Sydney? If so where can you get it? Cheers, blake
mianos
The popular one is glosso (Glossostigma). It is discussed here on the krib: http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/Plants/glossostigma.html For a good carpet of any plant you really need CO2 and good light otherwise it goes messy. BlakeyBoyR
Thanks for the link. Now I just need to find it in Sydney I have C02 and I should be getting a light soon. I will hold off on it until I get the double refelector I want but it is still good to know what to be looking for at LFS etc. Cheers mate
Ash
If you prefer a "grassy" look you could try chain swords, way bigger leaves than hair grass though & I believe it's easier to find than glosso
mezzacam
Also you can apparently use Xmas moss or java moss or even riccia as a carpet? (I think you can do it... maybe i'm just dreaming i read thigns, lol) This is a site i found with a good way to do it. My Nature Aquarium
BlakeyBoyR
Yeah thanks dude, I am planning to order some plants from aquamail including riccia and give it a go. I just have to wait to get my power compact light though along with some fertilisters.
graceless
I believe there's a guy on the Baronia forums (Melb) that sells pre matted sections of bubbling riccia (which is harder to get i think). Pretty cheap and he posts. Sorry mods if this is against the rules mentioning another forum
