cirulis
Anyone know what this stuff is...and possible fish that will eat it....bristlenose won't touch it. I thought maybe SAE's but not sure. Thanks Brett
YeW
Looks like the first growth of black beard algae. SAE's should eat it.
mianos
I agree with Yew, looks like black beard, which in my experience is only eaten by true SAE. They will generally only eat it down to the base so the leaves will stay slightly coloured with it but new leaves won't have it if you have SAE in the tank. Brett4Perth
Yes, probably BBA. Look to nutrient excess as the most likely cause. You won't be able to eradicate it with SAE alone. Cheers Brett (also)
Ged
As Brett said BBA normally flourishes when the nutrient level in the tank is in excess. In particular have a look at the phosphate levels within your tank. Apart from using SAE as a control you can also stimulate the growth of the plants within the aquarium so they can out-compete BBA. The other alternative is to adjust the lighting regime for the tank. By turning the light off for a couple of hours in the middle of the day will interrupt the algae’s ability to photosynthesis but does not affect the plants in the tank.
