My Via aqua came with small bio balls at the bottom, course foam, the noddles in the middle, and course rocks at the top covered with a fine foam filter and that is that. If its not broke, don't fix it I dont understand what you mean? i know it sounds like figure of speach but it just confused me why you said it? I conducted this post before i purchased the filter...i was simply asking for advice. When i bought the filter i expected too much from it, but have learn't now and im happy with the job its doing ( i am no longer concerned).
