YeW
Hi -I've only ever kept D. filamentosus :o. Not sure whether D. maculatus is in the country.D. filamentosus can be a tricky cichlid... if you've got very soft acid water - plenty of lush plants in your tank - this fish should do well.HTH -

Geoffagus
G'day Mick, I have a pair of D.maculatus and they are a stunning little fish that grows quite a bit larger than D. filamentosus. the water conditions are as with most of the american dwarfs soft acid according to the books I have read, however I find that they show more colour and seem happier in very soft (no conditioner) neutral water. They do require religious water changes, they do not like a dirty tank.
