Mbuna
hi,i was wandering if anyone had experiences with breeding fish in tanks on the lower level of a two tier stand(close to the ground). Do you find that they breed less often and are easily spooked?
midnightexpress
3 out of 5 female bread in the last month and the tanks are on the floor.they get spooked the first week or so,then they get used to it.adnan
Geoffagus
The only fish that I found that prefered the lower tanks (that is they produced more fry down there) was the good old b/nose.
Ben
You may find it’s the amount of traffic in front of the tanks rather than the position of the tanks that maybe the problem. I have two tear shelving and have not noticed the fish on the lower tear breed any less than my other fish.Andy and I have Cobwe in a tank that is 20cm off the ground and they breed extremely well. However, we both only walk pass the tank to feed them or for tank maintenance.Try reducing the through traffic and see how you go.Best of luck,
Mbuna
thanks for the replies guys i might try swapping the fish from the top tank to the bottom one and see if that changes anything as the ones in the top tank dont seem to get spooked.thanks againHarry
BaZ
My most prolific breeders at the moment are in a tank which is less than 10cm from the ground. It is the bottom tank in the rack, and there is only some timber between the tank and floor. My room is like Ben's though, not a very high traffic area.
