Why do these things always happen at night. Luckily I had a spare cycled tank ready that I could move the fish into.

Looks as if it took a knock and chipped the glass. Water is only seeping out. Is it possible to patch the inside of the corner. What are peoples experiences of patching tanks.

David

Replies »

Author: Craig Douglas

Buy some glazing silicon from the hardware store and just bog it up! Works, no problems ! You will need to dry it and clean it propperly first.
Craig.

Author: Pierced Soul

the silicon you want is shelleys window and glass silicon as it's designed to be used on aquariums. This silicon is also non-toxic and I ahve used it many times to fix tanks.

drain the tanks, remove the silicon from around the chip and put new silicon over it. Let it dry for a few days then fill it up and test for leaks

Author: Chipimbi

Hi

Make sure that you remove as much interior silicone as possible. And thoroughly clean the glass before resiliconing (Windex works well)

Keep in mind that the leak may be occuring some distance away from where it is exiting from the aquarium.

Goodluck Chipimbi

Author: bijengum

Thanks all. On closer examination I found a large flake of glass off the back glass at the bottom corner. About 1 cm and about half the thickness of the glass. Must have been dropped on the corner at some stage. It is still safe just to reseal it.

David

Author: meesterclarence

Hi. It's also wise to give it a day, or 2 to dry, before filling with water again. Good luck.

Paul

Author: citypainter

I think that it is a good idea to silicon in a peice of glass to the interior of the tank as well.
That way you cover a larger surface area, and minimise the pressue on the softer silicon.
