Lv426
I bought a slightly injured Parachromis dovii yesterday. Apparently it got into a fight with another dovii and my one came off second best. Half of it's gills on the left side are showing. The fold usually covering this area is gone. The fish is about 8cm. Im wondering if a fish can recover/regenerate an injury in such an area. He is a bit shy but doing well, no sign of any other injury. What do you think people can it recover?
j.s
I'm not sure whether it will recover without any scarring - but to increase its chances you could add some melafix to reduce the likelihood of it getting worse. You can buy melafix from most aquarium stores - but you can also make it yourself by adding an amount (which i have forgotten) of pure tea tree oil to distilled water and shaking well hope this helped. Chester
I have had this happen in convicts before. It never grows back.
