Serial-Cichlid
There was a post a while ago regarding Cyathopharynx foai or furcifer. From recollection someone replied with a photo of Cyathopharynx foai Magara (I think). It was one of the best looking fish I have seen. I can no longer find that post or either the person has taken the photo down. If anybody could help me find this post or photo, I'd like to confirm that it is the same fish I'm potentially after. There are photos of it on the net as well but I'd just like to see that photo again. Cheers Paul

trofius
Update from last time the post with pics was up, I am now not just a keeper but a breeder of the Foai "magara" I bought the parents of my 4, 8cm ones and they spawned 3 weeks later. she held for 12 days then spat into the flake i just fed them! bugger... a few got eaten by the other fish in the tank, but I saved 8 from a guess of about 15, all doing well, now 5 weeks old. 8cm male has a baby nest beside Dads big nest, its quite cute really even though Dad encourages him to go down the other end of the tank! Serial-Cichlid
Congrats Mick How big are they now at 5 weeks old and what size tank are you keeping the adults in? PS to anyone interested: These were the actual photos I was looking for Cheers Paul
trofius
Thanks Paul, The magara fry would be about an inch long, and nice and plump on bbs, and crushed spirilina flake, every morning the entire bottonm of the tank is spotless and full of little divits from them sifting. the fry are in a small 12inch tank , but soon to be moved to a 2 footer with my kitumba fry. The magara may be a bit small as she spat them early (12days) and they were skinny with a small egg sac. The adult tank is a 6x2x2, AC500 filter, weekly 20% water changes. Get a mix of OSI spirilina and sera flora, and frozen brine shrimp really brings out their colour and gets them in the mood Fish include 3 adult Foai~ 12-15cm 2M, 1F, also 4 smaller foai ~8cm, 2M, 2F 8 Cyprichromis leptosoma "Malasa" 6M, 2F. ~8cm 4 Xenotilapia flavippinis ~5cm, (also had their first mouthfull a few weeks ago, but swallowed after 3 days) I made a ring of rocks at one end and the Foai use this and a bit of thier own handy work for a nest, never gets real big,, als have a bigger rock in the middle of the tank to divide it in half, for territories, and a large pile of rocks at the filter end. ~1cm of sand over bottom, when he is not building a nest.. i think there is a pic of the tank on my webshots page, and som e non breeding pics of the male, will have to get a few more up as he is lookng good, but his oldest son is looking even better.
