Mazimbwe
The Nyasse are great. So are the other Syno's and you can never go past a sailfin. Better still what about the 2 Nyasse and a Sailfin??

Nigel
Reddevilman whats wrong with Synodontis nyassa. If you had multis and nyassa together i dought you would be able to tell the difference.

Nigel
I thought i would post photos of both to open the debate on this. I have been trying to sell the Nyassa with out much success everyone one wants multis i say there is very little difference. So would like some feed back on this. Synodontis multipunctatus from Lake Tanganika. I brought these in about 12 mounths ago. Synodontis nyassa from Lake Malawi. So let me know what eveyone thinks. Phenomena
Hi Nigel, I don't own any. By looking @ the pics I prefer multis. Prettier color contrast and patterns. I have eupterus which I personally think still looks better than nyassae. Regards, DD
Mazimbwe
I have the nyassa, multi's and eupterus(sp?). They are all different and all have their own charm. I am glad to have them all. I also have sailfins and B/N's and they are great too. As for which is better the multi's or the nyassa...I think they are different so can not be compared. They are all kewl. Lepperfish
Hey, I got a sailfin, about 5-6cm, and a synodontis multipunctatus 5cm today..
Mazimbwe
You could still add a nyasse...seeing as you are only have one multi. I am suprised you have had a problem getting rid of them all, Nigel, I like em. I think they are like a cross between a Pictus and a S.Multi to look at and they have a really sleak, fast look to them...and talk about pace, they really get moving around the tank. Lepperfish
I wouldnt mind another multipunctatus or a nyassa... My new multipunctatus hasnt come out of hiding since getting him back this arvo, the sailfin is a little more adventurous..

poxboy
I've got a 20cm male Synodontis decorus in with my cichlids, he's the most stunning fish I own, and I love him very much . I reckon the trail off the top of his dorsal fin is about 10cm, but the cichlids don't seem to nip at it. Brett.

I Agree with Maz, I have the same mix. (Nothing suceeds like excess ) Personal preference: Multi (cuckoo) then the rest. Value for money? You will probably NEVER get a wildcaught at that price again! So GRAB them from Nigel. Regards Jeff

Mazimbwe
Lepperfish, you should see very little of you Syno's, generally, because they are a nocturnal fish(note the large eyes). I found that my S.multi's became more active and more visible once I got the numbers up. I have a group of 10 cruising in a 6x2x2 with Fossi's, acei and hongi...they are always cruising around, males following females, and I can usually see 2-3 at any time. I have B/N's and a sailfin(not to mention the eel and 2 Clown-loaches) sharing the tank as well and all is cool. In another tank I have a pair of S.nyasse living with some afra and Peacocks and a few loaches & B/N's. And in another I have the S.eupterus(sp?) and a sailfin with some pheno's and saulosi. I see all the Syno's...the nyasse and multi's are very active at feeding time and happy to relax in their "Spot" at most other times. HTH
Lepperfish
I was reading about them, they say the syno is diurnally active which means ative during the day doesnt it? So if i get a few more, do they have to be multis or can i get say a couple of nyasse or other synos to accompany the multi ?
Adam
Well I've got the S. njassae, S. decorus, S. eupterus and S. multipunctatus. I certainly preffer my S. njassae to the other synos I have. They are in my opinion a much prettier catfish. I've got all of them in the same tank with a multitude cichlids and peppermints. I find that by far and away the decorus are the most nocturnal. the other three species are all happy to move around the tank during the day and night. I think the key is to have at least 4 synos and a good number of non-skitish cichlids or other fish. My first group of 5 S. njassae I got almost a year ago at a much smaller size than the ones that Nigel has. i was lucky enough to add 6 of these to my syno tank a month or two ago. I cannulated all my Synos the other day and although my original fish are 2-3cm bigger than the new ones they were all sexually mature. I obtain eggs and milt from all of the S. njassae. They are the best fish followed by the S. multipunctatus. I do like the eupterus and decorus as well. Get what you can and enjoy them. But try and get a group of synos. I've got 33 in my tank and their all very active. Adam I've tried to post some photos of these fish but can't do it because I haven't saved them in an appropriate format for this forum. Have alook at this post on the Perth forum in the catfish section.
