Would any one has the PVC bending tool for hire (bend up to 40mm PVC for fish tank).

Or I can do other things for you like drill a hole in your pots like this:

Drill a hole in your tank, or cut some missing glass lids for you...

I have never seen a VC pipe bending tool, and I have been working on pool filters for as long as I can remember. The only way I have ever "bent" a PVC pipe is by cutting it half and glueing an elbow in the middle. The elbows come in all manner of sizes and angles thumb.gif

Generally, we can heat the pipe up to approx 170 C then bend it. For a small pipe 16-20 mm it's easy, but if you try to bend a 32 or 40mm then it more difficult.

With the bending tool (cost approx $300-$500) it would make the job profesional with a smallest bending circle. The 20mm elbow cost $5.0 and not as nice beside if you want to bend PVC to similar shape as Eihem spray bar then you need a tool.

G'day

If you want to bend some PVC that is either 20 or 25 mm, then this is easily and cheaply accomplished.

Just purchase a "bending spring" of the correct diameter from an electrical supplies store. thumb.gif I don't think they make bending springs any larger, but then again I didn't ask for a larger spring either dry.gif .

To bend the pipe just heat one side of the pipe with a heat gun and with gentle pressure you can turn/bend the pipe around. IF you heat the pipe all the way around you will see that it bunches up and looks odd.

TIP: Use a round piece of pipe/wood as a template, whilst bending. This will ensure a nice curvy bend that doesn't look odd thumb.gif .

Ooops blink.gif Almost forgot, the springs cost about $15 (????) each. So it will be a lot cheaper just to buy some elbows if you only want a few bendy tubes. If you want more then this works out HEAPS cheaper and quicker as well.

Goodluck

To bend 16-20mm PVC is very simple.

Heat it up in your cook table in the kitchen (it not the overn but the cook table? I dont know what to call it), when the surface turn to shiny color that is when it ready, then lay it on your table and bend it. Very simple but come with practice, usually the problem is over heat (turn the PVC to brown color) or under heat when you can not bend it properly.

The above method can bend 90 to 180 degree easily.

But if you want to bend 180 degree and then 90 degree in the opposite direction (with a minimun bending radius) then it not possible without tool.

The other option is to buy it fron the LFS for $18.00

I agree with everything every one has said it may be easier to either use elbows or get some flexi pipe in the right size.

If you still want to bend your 40mm pipe then you can. I use the following method to do pipes upto 150mm, the heating method just varies. Fill pipe with sand and cap both ends. Use a heat gun or flame to heat pipe evenly over a couple of minutes. Gentle start to bend. The sand will assist in keeping the pipes shape if it is packed tightly. If you want to do more than one bend let it cool fully (either in air or submerse in water) then do again.

Have fun.
