Electric blue and yellow tankmates

I have some p.s.salousi and Bristle nose with my Blues and Yellows.

As I have a large dominant Male Yellow I have 3 females for him, they seem to get along real fine. Since large male Salousi has been in there (12 months) he is starting to dominate the tank. I know some may disagree with this but I also have a number of Peacocks in there and for a few years now they have been together and given me much pleasure, I have had no dramas at all. All my fish are full of colour and are breeding as well.

Hi Meredith,

First, what kind of tank do you want it to be, Display only or general where breeding may occur? Both the fish you've mentioned are reasonably placid, so the range you could put with is wide. The E yellow is Mbuna and the E blue is a Hap so you have a leg each side of the fence at the moment. What fish did you have in mind?

Well, OK, here is my 10cents worth,

As far as M to F ratio goes, 1M to 3F is usually good as it keeps the male from picking on one female, the down side to this is you usually have 1 nice coloured up fish and 3 basic. So for a display/breeding tank try 1M-2F. Don't forget you can get males only of some species, and forget about breeding those types. The E yellow is an exception to the rule here, both are coloured.

Now, my suggestions:

Copadichromis Borleyi (Kadango's)

Placidochromis Electra

Otopharynx Lithobates (Red Top)

Maylandia Callainos (cobalt blue)

Labidochromis Spec. (Hongie)

and don't forget cleaners, Bristlenose cats, basic but very efficient.

These fish in my experience get along fairly well and it's a nice mix of colour, but that's just my opinion.

cheers

glenn
