Teamsherman
I have a female red devil which i have no intention of ever getting rid of, but i need the space for more reptiles (my new venture) and i want to know what would be too small a tank to put her into as i want to get rid of the 4 foot standard she is in now. She is about 8inches total length but is happy in about 2 and a half feet of space as i have another fish in the other bit of the tank (a light diffuser divider separates them from certain carnage). And ideas would be great. Cheers, Alan. Please dont offer to buy the fish as i want to keep her aslong as her life span will be.

r.d.m
by herself i wouldnt go any smaller than a 3 footer mainly due to keeping the water in good condition ,in a 2 footer youd be doing a 50% water change twice a week, their not a powerful swimmer ,but its never aesthetically pleasing to see a big fish in a small tank. i can understand why you dont want to part with her ,she probably recognises you from 10mts away, and rubbishes the scientific theory that fish have a 4 second memory
discusdude
I think that theory about memory got scrapped a long time ago. A 30 inch by 18 inch (tall) by 14 inch (wide) tank should be fine. . Cheers Alistair
Teamsherman
thanks heaps guys. Reddevilman, you are dead correct, she comes to the glass as soon as i get home, and she really laps up the attention by dancing for me and i can even pet her on her head and side of her body. She is part of my family now and i would be distraught if i had to give her up. Im actually thinking of just keeping the four footer and getting rid of the other fish on the other side of the tank. cheers, Alan.

Cheers Alistair I would, but even the standard 4 footer is taking up valuable possible reptile space!!! Nah, she's not going anywhere, ive decided to keep her in the 4 footer. Also, this morning is the second time in 3 months she has laid eggs without a male in the tank. I think i might have to get her a boyfriend sometime soon. But the last male i put in there was bigger than her and she still managed to have him cowering in the corner...(just like most females i suppose...lol just jokes ladies )
r.d.m
if you put a divider in (egg crate etc) so water can pass through the male will fertilise the eggs ok , and theyll be no fights, and who knows they may even get to like each other!
