Crazyfish
Hi all, i did a water change in one of my tanks yesterday and i woke up this morning and did a ph test and it is around 6.0, could i add rift lake salt without doing another water change or is there another way to get the ph up to over 8.0? Cheers Daniel
j.s
add baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to the tank or to new water when you do a water change. This will get your PH to about 7.5-8 ish, you can maintain this PH level by using shell grit, limestone or crushed coral in your filters and substrate. Make sure you dont go from Ph 6 to 8 in one shot, the fish might stress out and die. Maybe do it over a period of about 3-4 days to be safe
Mbuna
you can gradually add the rift lake buffer over a few days, a sudden change in ph is no good for your fish. you can also put coral/shell grit in your filters (or as substrate) to prevent the problem happening again. good luck cheers Harry
Crazyfish
Thanks j.s & mbuna, i wasnt going to add a heap straight away ive used ph up befor, but i could remember someone on this forum saying ph up is only baking soda(but i couldnt remember). i do have beach sand mixed with 20mm river pebbles as substrate, so im unsure why the ph dropped so low its usualy at around 8.8 to 9 so 6.0 is a big drop in my tank(no wonder my fish were freaking out), could it be from the primafix ive been using?
