Choosing pumps?

Ok, which pump should I get to run 2 4'x18"s? I'm going to have lots of filtration and I want to have plenty of "spare" air...also the tanks have twin outlet side-drops and for some reason they always seem to need more pressure then other air-driven filters. The tanks are in my loungeroom so the pump can't be too loud. And I suppose it should be economical as far as electricity is concerned...I've narrowed it down to these (from AOA):

Resun 8 outlet air pump 20Lts pr min $64.00

ACO-001 20Lts pr min $39.00*

ACO-003 50Lts pr min $59.00*

* Electromagnetic pumps.

Resun LP20 20Lts pr min $80.00

Resun LP40 50Lts pr min $95.00

The LP20 runs "up to 10 tanks" I suppose that means 10 airstones? Same for the LP40, "runs over 30 tanks"?

I've looked at the Hiblow range and found them waaay too expensive.

Also, 20Lts per min doesn't seem like enough and 50Lts per min seems like too much...any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your replies, and thanks to everyone who replied to my previous, and very similar thread/questions blush.gif

Hi I've a 4' x2' 20" with a 2 outlet enddrop filter with a resun 4 outlet 9lt and found it wasn't enough so I've put another 7.5lt pump in the line and is working fine my filter has 2 off 2.25" square uplifts in the corners with 2" airstones. In short they slow down when the filter wool fills up so it depends on how often you change or vacuum the wool to the size that works best also the depth of the airstone slows the air the deper you place it. IMO 15 litre mimimum per 4 footer also I've put a homemade uv sterilizer in the other end with a small powerhead to increase the recirculating flow .

I'm also going to put my first fibreglass weathered sandstone background in front of the filter on my next big water change it should make it present better . I'll post pics then. smile.gif

G'day

If noise is a factor forget about electro magnetic! Very noisy.

Go for the LP40. That way you have plenty of "spare" air and can house the pump well away from the room and run a few air lines into the lounge room. Very quiet loungeroom! smile.gif

This pump would also allow you to send your "spare air" elsewhere should the need arise.

Personally I use HiBlow, but they are certainly a lot more expensive.

Hope this helps. smile.gif
