catcher
G'day everyone, I like opinions on what you all think is the best value for money sump pump is in the 3500lph range. You know, quite, long life, minimum head loss when lifting all that stuff. Thanks glenn
fishly
Hi Glenn, I would say eheim pump. Regards, Tony
AMK
Eheim pump would probably be the best.. but then not as affordable as some. I am also in the market for a sump pump, Eheim was what I wanted originally, but I have also stumbled across Pondmaster and Ocean Runner brands. Both apparently very reliable pumps, at a much more affordable price.
swifty
Actually i would say Via Aqua, they have some massive flow rates and didnt seem that expensive for the one i was looking at. The one i saw was like 5000 gal per hour, for $149 So its quite beefy. Im not to sure about sumps though HTH Robert
stagfest
I too have been looking at pumps and came across and eheim range of compact filters...very cheap for eheim, i'll sure be getting a few of these when i get my new tank!!! here's the link to one of the site sponsors who sells them... http://www.aquaticlifeaquariums.com.au/ but i've also heard that pondmaster is a good brand too...but via aqua apparently runs out of steam after a few months...??? OziOscar
I have some of the small Pondmaster ones and the flow rate marked isn't the flow rate given. It claims 900 lph but it's only making 300. The other thing to bear in mind is the heat rejection of the pump. Some of the lower cost ones run quite warm owing to the bearings, bushings, etc being of lower quality. It's not a worry at this time of year but when it gets warm again it may help push the temperature of the water past where your livestock are happy. HTH. Cheers - OziOscar. BaZ
I would say eheim pump. Eheim pump would probably be the best.. but then not as affordable as some. I had no idea Eheim made a pump in the 3500lph range. Do either of you have more info please? I am currently looking at my options for a reliable quiet pump. Catcher, I am currently using a King4, and have previously used a Pondmaster PM4200. They both give good strong flow, yet seem to get a bit rattley after 12-18 mths. Like all things, you get what you pay for. If you want the best, go for Grundfos but be prepared to sell a child or limb before you check the prices
catcher
Thanks everyone, yes BaZ I was going to ask about the higher volume Eheims, I've only ever seen around the 1000lph or so, they don't seem to do the larger volumes. Yet there is a range of copies, if you look at the outer casings that do up to 4000lph. Strange! But, I'm still listening to everyone's opinions, then I'll decide. AMK
From what I thought, Eheim's largest pump in Australia is a 2400L/hr or so... they might have other models which are not distributed here. But this link says otherwise. I didn't really look into it any further as it was out of my price range.
OziOscar
re: Grundfos Baz is dead right. I have 8 year old Grundfos pumps at work that are still meeting their original spec after 24/7 operation (about 40Kl / hr @ 6 bar, closed circuit). One out of four had a seal replacement kit two years ago. The other three are just fine. However - they are VERY expensive. The ones I have are not subermersible in true sump style but must be plumbed into a system. The upside is that they are totally rebuildable in the event of any failure. They're best as a long term investment. Cheers - OziOscar.
fishly
You guys are right that eheim does not have 3500lt/hr, instead the highest one is 2280lt/hr (1060 model). However, considering the efficiency that it produces, I believe it can compare with some pumps which say 3500lt/hr flow. I am sorry for the confusing that I created. bob12369
Actually EHEIM have a pump called the 1262 which pumps 3400L/h with a max head pump height of 3.6m. It is available in Australia but is pretty pricey. Ive seen them for over $400. For value for money I'd look at Aqua-medic Ocean Runner OR3500 or even OR6500. catcher
Thanks Bob, who does the Ocean Runners around the place?
Phenomena
Hi, I have a Pond Master (3800 L/h) and a Resun King (4200 L/h) running. I must say PM is better quality just by looking at the plastic casing, cord, and seal, you get what you pay for (almost double the price). I also have RIO Hyperflow (~8000 L/h) for back up, haven't used it. But it looks solid, much more compact and consumes less electricity. I've heard Ocean Runners are good. I think Trans @ Canley Valle carries some. Dunno about Grundfos, but I did some research, from memory they're power hungry. Regards, DD
staffyone
Hi guys, both of my sumps are using Aquaclear 5000 pumps and they work fantastic. Not sure if they are available anymore though but they pump 3800 lph. You could ring Pet Pacific to ask about them as I get a lot of aquaclear stuff from them as my wife is a vet nurse and she gets it for cost 9They are wholesale only). Anyway hopr that helps. bob12369
Catcher, try St George Aquariums, but most places should be able to get one in for you.
