j.s
The problem with the above two recipes is that they replicate the water paramaters but dont sustain them for longer than 4-5 days. The reason for this is that they use Sodium Bicarbonate to increase the PH, which without adequate Carbonates in the water will not hold the PH for more than 4-5 days. Does anyone know of a salt mix recipe that takes care of the Carbonate Buffering of the water aswell?

j.s
type aquasonic into google and their site should be the first one listed. On their site somewhere you will find a product catalogue. Reddevilman - do you use the Rift lake conditioner? have you checked you PH a week or so after doing a water change and is it still above 8? DREMEN
I have an in-tank filter (the ones with a spary bar) Do you think I could pack a stocking full of shell grit and place it in the filter? Would this slowly raise the pH levels?
Mbuna
sure will it would work better then using it as substrate as all the water in the tank is constantly passing through it
r.d.m
yes i change 20%of my water every week so the ph may drop after acouple of weeks but this stuff is cheap- this is whatits got in it -sodium chloride , sodium carbonate , sodium bicarbonate , sodium thiosulphate exicated , magnesium chloride , magnesium sulphate , potassium chloride , potassium nitrate , lithium chloride , calcium chloride , calcium sulphate and its aussie made it may be just coincedence but ive had some zebras for 6 months and they spawned 2 weeks after i started usingthis (in conjunction with chlorine remover)
