lt2004
I will be upgrading to a 450lt (122cm x 61cm x 61cm, next month hopefully merjo!) in the not too distant future, and am weighing up the filter and heater needs/options with what I already have. I have a AQ300 and a sera 200W heater from an existing tank, and was thinking of getting a 300W heater plus another filter, but not sure which one. I like the robustness of AQ, and was thinking AQ500, but as it is going in the lounge room, two Aq might be a bit noisy (japanese water torture springs to mind), but I have NO experience with the canister types (Eheims etc). I guess they would be heaps quieter, so any suggestions as to what would be good, reliable, value for $$, one to get for the size tank would be great. Cheers
fishly
I am using Eheim, Fluval, and Resun canisters. If you are looking for the best quality, go for eheim, as they are very quite and the water flow is very good. After that Fluval, and the last one is Resun. Resun is good in terms of money, but not as quite as Fluval and Eheim and the water flow is not like what it is said in the product manual. But I would say that Resun is quite enough if you put it inside the cabinet. Regards, Tony
Loachman
After using an Eheim 2217 for my standard 4 foot tank for 3 years, I gotta say, they make a damn good filter. I liked them so much I recently brought another Eheim 2217 for my new 5 foot tank (also running a mini-reef). If you can stretch the budget anywhere when it comes to fish tanks, stretch it with the filter. It will be worth your while (in the long term) to invest in a good filter. Also they are very very quiet.... great for important places like the lounge room.
mrgreen
i have to agree with loachman , wen it comes to your fishes health , this area should not involve cost-cutting , even if u have to wait a little longer , i would go with the best product avalible to you at the time. wat u try and save on filtration will soon outway the extra costs if u have fish die , that is the main point to consider, save $100 now , could relate to $500 worth of fish dieng my 2 cents steve green
graceless
hey lt2004, i don't know anything really about canisters, however i do own one. i got a jebo 815 for my standard 4 foot tank, and it's been really good so far. water quality and flow has been great. on the sound factor, i find myself often checking to see whether it's still on as it is as quiet as a whisper! don't know mechanically if it's good or bad, but it's doing the job for me, and it's in our loungeroom too, so the noise factor (or lack there of) is great.
