Fins
Hi Peter, I'm not exactly sure what you are after but here's a rundown. If you want your own domain name eg: www.gunriff.com.au then you need to pay $$$ for name registration and $$$ for someone to host it for you. Most ISP's will give you some webspace along with your dialup/broadband internet account for free. However, you will be useing their domain name eg: members.optusnet.com.au/gunriff and it will be limited to an amount of disk space usage. If you need more info, let me know. bishop
Just a little more info. Domain names range from free to about $120 for two years depending on the extenstion (com.au, net.au, org.au etc). There are howerver restictions on which ones you can have as private individuals. Web hosting for a private domain starts at about $20 per month (this usually includes e-mail on the same domain). You can host your own (on an old computer) but this takes a little (not a lot) technical knowledge. The cheapest option is to use the free hosting that comes with most internet accounts (not with telstra cable I notice) but you don't get you own domain name. There are lots of tools to create the web pages (some free). MS Word can do it but it is a bit crude. Netscape comes with "Composer". It is free and does a reasonbale job. If you want to spend money the best value is (as much as I hate to admit it) MS Frontpage. If you want to know mor e-mail me.
YeW
Peter - I write most of the SCP pages in a text editor - my advice is simple get a HTML/CSS book or search about the net and start plugging away :D! While there are various programs that write HTML/CSS for you most create bloated (IMHO) code. I feel like I have more control and enjoyed learning both CSS and HTML. Citypainter
My business has a web site that I wrote myself . I wrote in in Frontpage, really easy. The domain name was a 1 off cost about $100.00, can't really remember exactly. The web site hosting is $11.00 per month and I got unlimited email accounts and the opportunity to have a large web site. I don't use all the space yet but I will be writing more pages later. You can email me if you want the web providers details. Good luck.
