Frank
Hi all, yet another question: what is : FO and F1 Sometimes you guys get very "technical" Thanks, sorry but only try to learn more Frank
Mbuna
FO = wildcaught F1= offspring of wildcaught parents
Peter_Gun_Riff
if you have a wild male and female could you call the offspring F1? as thay are basically wild caught?
Mbuna
of course, they are offspring of WILDCAUGHT parents
Peter_Gun_Riff
yeah sweet as im hoping to get 1 male ngara 2 females to go with my colony. maybe more depending on price. and if their are any females
E4G13M4N
F1 has also been used in the past for offspring from unrelated parents, i dont take much notice with F0 etc as to me wildcaught should just be WC IMO
YeW
Guys / Girls - A few important points: 1. There is no such thing as F0. Period. 2. F1 is just a genetics term which basically means first generation. So to give you an example I have some Julidochromis transcriptus which I obtained from Jess and Julian. I could say that my fish are "F1" in that they are the amongst the first batch of fry I got from this person. In my opinion (and sometimes this is FACT)... shops will add "F1" to stock that may be F1 (from Joe Brown at Haberfield) but have no near relation to any fish living in the lake. I also think it is kind of bizarre that we number these generations (from wildcaught) only to 2 (ie: F2). If anyone is interested I have some F3 Neolamprologus brichardi 'Kiku'. These terms are often used to bump up the price of the fish! So be warned. I dont say this to detract from Nigel's fish. In their case these fish are coming from Malawi or Germany... so you can be sure they are (at the very least) imported!
Nigel
To end the debate these fish are all wild caught this i can guarantee 100% . Most if not all were only caught in Lake Malawi within the last 4 weeks. If you buy them and breed them you can call the fry anything you like. saudukar
And I will call him Squishy... And he will be my little Squishy.....
Link2Hell
lol @ Saudukar Squishy hahaha got get up off the floor now I've stopped laughing I have a pic of a fish being nursed like a small child nurses a kitten ...... hmm could call the kitten Squishy as well after the usual experience it goes through in that situation Seriously now ........ seems to be a lot of males in the Ngara pic, if you intend to buy females I'd get in early with an order and worry about the $$ later FO and F1 are used in the hobby like trade names when identifying wild caught and first generation from wild fish but as mention are incorrect in their true scientific context L2H
