Paul_S
Hello. I have just bought a Universal Rocks 3D background “Olgas” for my 6 foot tank. I believe it would be impossible to totally seal the background to the back glass. I am worried about the water getting behind the background will go stale and then possibly toxic. What do people do to stop this happening? Will an air stone help circulate the water?Regards,Paul.
spedwards
Why is it impossible to seal it up fully? I did a 4x2 background a few years back and was very successful. If you're up for a read then check out http://www.aceforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=23967
Paul_S
Thanks Jon. I have not read your article but I will. The main problem with sealing the background is that it is flexible along the vertical edges. I will need to make some 2 foot clamps to hold it in position while the silicone drys. I was curious how other people held their backgrounds.Paul. intangcity
gd ol silicone but lay the tank on its back and add pressure via pavers or similar
Paul_S
I have an added problem, the background has a few holes in it that will require patching before I glue it in. The holes are probably from the background being folded and mailed to me. I image that a lot of parcels were also laying on top of it. So far I have regretted buying it ($355). ozbloke74
I have a cliff light background in mine, was very distorted and does not sit flush on glass even when I set some heavy rocks on it, found out after if you use pvc cut to the appropriate length and jam against front glass panel helps getting it flat against back pane of glass. 6 months on and I couldn't tell you if the water is stale behind it , but water parameters are all good so I wouldn't be to fazed.
