dawghuntr
Hey guys,I have a 200L 4ft tank with approx. 16 approx 6cm fish.At the moment i have a 1200L/ph canister filter and a sponge filter but i am trying to aquascape my tank atm, trying to make it look better.the sponge filter is just ugly.In your experience do you guys think the sponge filter will be adventageous? or is the canister filter sufficient? dazzman
Im running a four foot grow out tank with a cf1200 no probs, just make sure the surface of the water is being agitated by the filter outlet.
dawghuntr
Litho so you have the sponge in there for bacteria? I think I might take it out I'm thinking about doing a 3d background of sorts and might just cause to much clashing. Thanks dazz
Paul_S
I agree with the others. Keep the sponge.
frontoes
whats is good keeping the sponge filter when you have 1200L/ph canister filter?
FullyYellow
Because what happens if your canister magically fails? I consider sponges secondary filtration for most tanks but they can be relied on. I have bred bristlenose successfully with just a sponge filter and airpump
Link2Hell
the differences are that a sponge is primarily bacterial and secondary mechanicalwhere a canister is primarily mechanical and secondary bacterial because of flowrate and media sizethe slower flow of a sponge filter allows bacteria to feed better
