myster619
Given the extinct and threatened status of Malagasy cichlids, don't you think they should be allowed on our import list? There are a good number of interested breeders here in Australia capable of putting time and effort in saving these endangered species. Is there a chance if we start a petition they would look into it?
Skippy
Is there a chance if we start a petition they would look into it? A petition would be a waste of time, here's how to have an species added to the list of allowable importshttp://www.environment.gov.au/topics/biodiversity/wildlife-trade/live-plants-and-animals/live-import-list/how-amendIf the species are covered by CITES that adds another complication. Is there a chance if we start a petition they would look into it? They cannot be both extinct and threatened..It would be extremely difficult (probably impossible) to import an extinct species

Link2Hell
If they are CITES listed then the general public is excludedin keeping these and only large public Aquariums would be consideredsome where like Bolton Museum that has a Malagasy fish program alreadyrunning for a while nowhttp://www.boltonmuseums.org.uk/aquariumas far as getting species on the import list you can apply but................without something like PIJAC pushing for it then you most likely won'tget a second glancelike most things run by the government they only take notices of largenumbers and institutions who only look at the dollars to be made
