cafa
Hi guys. How did everyone go during the heat wave?Unfortunately I lost some good stock which was pretty disappointing.Leleupi "Longior", White Lip Mdoka, Neo Tetracephalus, Cyp' "Black Bee", Placidochromis giselli, ctenochromis Horei, some Yellows and some Blues. As you can imagine, I was pretty devastated. several of them had fry etc.Anyway, I hope you all fared better and if anyone has any of these guys available for sale, I'd appreciate some contact.Cheers Cafa

cooder
Sorry for your losses, makes me think a chiller could be a decent investment if we ever get more of those 40 degree C + days...

cafa
Cheers guys.Yes I think you're right. A chiller would've saved them for sure.never needed one previously but 46+ degrees, 4x days in a row was too much. Thanks again guys.Cheers Cafa
DFishkeeper
Hi Cafa,Sorry to hear of your losses, mate.A similar experience quite a few years ago motivated me to install a reverse cycle air-conditioner in my fishroom and now I can't imagine not having one. To be honest, I use it mainly for heating the fishroom in winter, which it does extremely well and cost-effectively. I rarely need to turn it on in Summer, and then usually just for my comfort rather than the fish But it is invaluable when a heatwave does strike. Mine has paid for itself many times over.Cheers, Doug
cafa
Thanks Doug.Appreciate all the suggestions.A mate of mine has an air-con he doesn't need. Time for a visit.Cheers Cafa
Foti
Not good sorry to hear mate.I built my diy chiller out of a old window a.c unit.worked well last week.I'm interested in what you done !Are you saying that you repaired the ac and are using it in the room ?Or that you converted it to have water running through it as a chiller? "Which I think you are saying I find that very interesting and could be helpful if you could post how you did it even in a new thread and add link"Thank youFoti
green troll
Yeah i took a old a.c unit and went a little redneck with it.lol. Hydro guys do the same kinda thing but they just dump the condensor into the water.i put it in a tub filled with water and use the water as a heat exchanger and pump aquarium water through coils of hose.no aquarium water contacts the condensor. Its kept my rack (1000ltr) cool over last weeks heatwave running a total of 1.5hrs a day.i think thats preety effcient since i diddnt buy a commercial chiller. Disclaimer; its not preety and its totaly unsafe, but thats whats aussies do in our sheds...lol
