markfnq
I am just setting up another rack in the fish room and am a bit undecided which way to go with filtration. ????I swore i would never go back to odds and ends but the rack and tanks came at the right price so i need to make it work.Rack is three metres long and three tier it was set up to accommodate 2 4x4x2 on the second tier those tanks came with the rack other gaps will be filled with smaller tanks , I would really like to run it just on air with an LP 60 with plenty of sponges and some K 1 internal filters . the four footers will be heavily stocked . Running on air seems the simple solution , but will i be paying for it down the track with just more tank maintenance.?. I would prefer not to run another sump and cannisters dont seem practical . i will post some pics up over the week end when i get the tanks on the rack . cheers Mark
krellious
If you have spare Cannister why not let it run on each tank for a few days then swap over. I try to do that with HOB's. Help s a litttle bit more then the simple sponge
noxious_nasties
Sponges are good for biological but they won't do much for mechanical filtration in my opinion. They are good for a cheap solution to filtration and since biological filtration is all you really need for keeping fish you will be fine with it. Sumps are the way to go if you want all avenues of filtration covered. I prefer to use sponge filters as a backup or additional filtration that provides some aeration.
