T1gger
Hi there,I am new to fish keeping and have plattys and swordtails in the same tank. There is a male of each and 1 female swordtail and 2 female plattys with other fish (2 bristlenoses, 2 peppered corys, 1 bronze cory and 8 neon tetras)Now will my platty and swordtail fry be classed as hybrids? Don't fish choose to mate with their own species first? It is all so complicated.I want to know so I know I can't advertise them here. I just want to do the right thing. I do have a new tank cycling so I will be moving the plattys out. I have a few questions about whether the babies will be considered hybrids and for how long? And what is bad about hybrids if they are sold as such. Would mine need to be sold as hybrids elsewhere?I have bought a huge tank and am considering what species to go for but want to ensure all the babies are not hybrids. I didn't know it was so frowned upon. The tank is 60 cm across is octagon shape and 70 cm deep.I am considering angel fish but know they eat neon tetras. I love the neons and don't want them to dissapear as they did in my uncles tank with angelfish that grew big enough to put neons in their mouths. Is there any other suggestions of fish for my new display tank. I do want to sell the babies so will need fish that can't hybridise(whatever that means). I will need bigger fish to show in the size of tank. I like deep looking fish like the plattys and swordtail females. I know the sword is pretty on the males but I prefer the females.I also want an alternative to bristlenose catfish and corydoras for the new tank someone suggested l397's I think. Does anyone have a picture of one and know anything about them. I would really love to meet someone with a variety of catfish or someone who breeds them for me to decide which ones that I can afford that I like the look of. How do people cope with getting rid of named fish. I don't name the babies as they are to be rehomed. I can't kerp an extra 90 fish per month it is just not feasible. I do keep the parents. I am going to have to consider removing males from tank and isolating until no more fry are born. Then I can choose to introduce a female when I have call for more babies. How do fish tanks with the majority single sex go. Is there agression or not. The only males with the females would be corys, neon tetras and bristlenoses or maybe later on other catfish. How about bristlenoses, neons and cory potential females in with male Plattys and swords. frankenstrat
where do i start.the fish you mention are not cichlids so you may have more luck on a forum devoted to tropicals of the type you are keeping.any species that breeds with a different species will produce hybrid offspring, you definately cant sell them here and its irresponsible to sell them at all as it results in hybrid fish all over the place....and is harmful to pure strains that we have left in australia.there are many websites that cover everything you need to know about L number cats.you will probably find that most people on here dont name there fish, and some are not as attached to them as you might think.i personally have bought and sold many fish in the last 10 years and some i regret selling and others not so much as they made way for something of more interest to me.i think thats everything?
