Hi all,

I am undergoing a few problems in regards to lighting my new setup. I have currently got an old double T8 fixture running but i want to upgrade to LEDS and build a hood for my tank.

I am looking at a couple of beamswork fixtures but not sure what all the technical terms mean and i dont want to buy something that is way to bright or something not bright enough. Can someone please help me out?

I am going to have a community tank of Lake Malawi cichlids and a odd few plants I have decided.

Here are the links to a couple of lights i am looking at.

I am not very fond of all the lingo that is used in regards to lighting.

Thanks all in advance.

Chris

I put an Aquazonic Sirius on my 4 2 2, reasonably bright but in 4 weeks I haven't grown any algae on the rocks(im keeping tropheus) and didn't quite seem like enough light so I bought a 3ft Fluoro, T3 I think it is, 40 watter, (4 foot wouldn't fit under hood length ways), seems to be good light penetration throughout tank and limited shadows, led generates pretty much zero heat, the fluoro gets quite warm. If your budget allows, two Sirius lights would be perfect in my opinion. Couldn't tell you what the ebay lights are like but ive had a horror run with just about everything electrical ive bought from ebay, these days I just pay the premium so I can take it back to shop when/if it dies.
