Plumbing PVC pipe sealant

The blue stuff can be used as well. It's approved for potable (drinking) water but is not for pressure use, although I've used it for aquarium plumbing before, and with the relatively low pressures we use it would most likely be fine. The clear one is really the way to go if you want a professional looking result. Whichever way you go, make sure use a primer as well and you'll have no dramas.

Cheers,

Dave.

Using the green stuff is fine. If your neat and don't slop too much on, you can get a good finish with no glue visible. Biggest tips I can give; glue bell ends first, don't put on too much glue, on male pieces only glue to depth of the female piece and always have a rag handy.

The almost finished product. Have it running to get ready for fish. Just need to paint the uprights black and I'm done.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I went with clear sealant and it looks great. My neighbor also got me the black colour bond capping to cover the front of the beams which finished it off nicely.
