Tropheus in a community tank?

Hi all,

I'm currently piecing together a Tanganyikan comunity tank. The tank dimensions are 140cm long, 75cm wide and 60 cm tall. It runs a large sump that is slowly evolving as I adapt it from a salt-water system to fresh. Currently there's some filter foam and about 400 bioballs in there. Once I get some more glass cut there'll be more foam and possibly some more bio filtration.

Current residents are 2 Julidochromis transcriptus and 6 Synodontis multipnctatus. In the next few weeks there will some shell dwellers added, 8 or so Lamprologus brevis and a few, maybe half a dozen?? Eretmodus cyanosticus.

So the question is, what else to add? I'd like some sand sifters eventually, Xenotilapia spilopterus perhaps. Some Opthalmotilapia ventralis would be nice but I think my tank is too small personally so that won't happen. Was wondering how Tropheus might go in this tank? Would it work and would it be problematic? What sort of numbers should I add? And probably most important, what sort of diet would keep the Tropheus happy (alive) while still being suitable for everyone else?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Dave.

This is pretty much the tank as it is and an how the aquascape will stay. Don't mind the 2 brevis, they were cheap and are just there to bolster numbers until I pick up some better quality ones after Christmas. They'll then be temporarily rehomed in the sump until I can find another hobbyist who would like them.

  • 2 weeks later...

Tank looks foot mate.

It's plenty big enough for ventralis man. Personally I think trophs would be fine I hat a tang display with T's with out a problem. Just feed the tank according to the trophs. Start with 20 is a good number.

What's holding that rick on top left up ? Hate for that to fall off and pop a panel.

Cheers.
