Kerrin
Hey folks,I recently returned to cichlids and decided I would try tangs. I have had fish in the tank for about a month now and stocking is as follows11 cyp. leptosoma "utinta"2 Julidochromis marlieri "gombe" (m+f pair)3 n. similis (this was 4, 2m 2f but the males refused to see eye to eye, and after some rather nasty altercations one of the males wound up rather beaten and no longer holding a territory so he had to be moved on to a friend)The tank is in a good state at the moment and over the last few days I have noticed the cyps. have really started showing, it has gone from relatively no action to multiple males starting to show, and last night I had 2 males circling each other and sparring for about 5mins.Due to my lack of experience with these fish I am wondering if this is just normal sparring/behaviour ( I also keep lots of rainbows and see this sort of stuff everyday with no fry as yet) or if I should be on the lookout for females with a mouth full over the next few weeks.Either way it is great to see the fish settle in, and great to see some color on display! Kerrin
Tried to get some photo's tonight, found it rather difficult but decided to put up the best I managed to get. Please excuse the dodgy iphone shotsI'm also having some serious issues with brown algae on the glass, anybody know a good remedy or what the cause might be? gillsysyd
New tanks get it up till about 6 months. But biggest cause I found was high sliciate level. I got phosguard and put it in my filter its slowed it down dramatically

Kerrin
Thought I'd upload a pic of the whole tank for you Dan, I'm still not 100 happy wth the layout and need to sought out this algae but the fish are happy and thats the most important thing
danielsplakat
just leave the algae man i reckon it looks cool, gives it a natural look or you can turn the light on less. i never turn the light on and plus tangs don't like the light that much haha. you could always throw in one bristlenose to be your cleaner that'd solve everything! looks good you should be happy! chorrylan
if the algae is a brown smear on the glass it'll be more of a bacterial film than algae but the important thing is... bristlenose catfish will clean it up
