markfnq
I have sump pump that is getting a bit lazy and i have a smaller spare that will boost the flow.Is running 2 pumps side by side in the one chamber an issue ????. It gets a little complicated as its a dual sump that runs 2 pumps as it is.So i end up with 2 pumps in one of the sumps and one in the other, both sumps are well bridged for flow .I am currently doing a temp trial and all seems well.just means a bit of extra plumbing .It will solve the problem till i can get a new pump. kind regards mark. malawi sand diver
Hi MarkHow's big 10 footer going?2 pumps in the one sump will be no problem, however to minimise noise and save electricity, I prefer one of the newer lower wattage energy saving pumps (e.g. 8000 LPH @ 80W)Regards, Rob
Squirtle
dont see an issue, I have seen sumps with 4-5 pumps all it is really is a higher running cost and higher setup cost but in some cases it works out better as you can get the required amounts you need where as a big pump with lots of valves and Ts its hard to know how much is going where else you do flow tests etc! you see it a lot with salt water tanks, all those reactors etc.
firthy13
i have seen a 12foot marine tank with a 6x1.5x1.5 sump/refugium with 7 pumps in it. your set up will work just fine
markfnq
thanks for the replies, i would like to have more water turn over , but with the dual sump it needs to be tweeked a bit with a bleeder back into the sump to keep levels even when using 2pumps in one chamber I am trying to avoid getting 2 new pumps of equal output. The cost of two quality 5000 lph pumps .$$$$$ . big tanks = big running cost . $300 for a set of 6 quality t5 tubes but it looks great . the fish bathe in near pure sunlight while we use 10 watt eco globes. lolthe 10x2x2.5 looking great sand diver ,wish i had of taken your advice and went with some bigger predators. will put an updated pic up soon. thanks mark
Squirtle
if you set it up right the running costs are not that high some of my big tanks use 100W and 0 issues thus far. why not run a LED > t5? yes higher start up cost but better par and spread + lower power usage, you can diy nice and cheap also.
