23Skidoo
I am thinking of mounting a 20L bucket over my 6 foota and pumping directly from the tank to the bucket, i was going to add an overflow to the bucket and use this to filter better. Does this sound alright? And if so would terracotta chips be o.k for media?
Guest Panga
Hi 23Skidoo, Im sure it will work just fine. I have a 10 litre bucket sitting on top of my 4 footer useing it as a filter Its setup so it drains back into the tank like you say. It works like a dream mate, doesnt look 100% but works fine. Cheers Troy
23Skidoo
Thanks for that Troy! I was gunna try it anyway, but it's nice to hear it from someone else. Whaddaya know about terracotta chips? I saw it at the nursery about $8 a bag and it looks enough to fit out two or three 20L buckets.
Ducksta
If it is 100% terracotta it will be fine (like using terracotta pots for caves) If it has been treated with anti-fungals or anything that might be risky.
Phenomena
Hey Skidoo, I second to that, it'll work just fine. You can find a sample in the NSWCS DIY articles...I've just setup mine last weekend for my two 6x2x2 combined system with 65lt plastic crate. I use 40kg of scoria as the biomedia and wadding. Works a charm... Regards, DD
23Skidoo
So are scoria and terracotta chips the same or similar? The stuff they sell at the nursery is all smashed up pots and stuff! So i assume its 100% terracotta. Now all i gotta do is put it together
