j.s
Just wondering whether there is a way to delete your own posts. Cheers
Guest Gutty
Nope. Only by PMing a mod/admin.
Bijengum
You could edit the post and delete the content. The post would still appear however.
j.s
Thanks for the replies - I think there should be an option available to delete your own posts, I dont see a reason why not to have one.
Willy Wombat
J-s if you want one of your posts deleted, just edit the post and put delete in the topic line and the mod will do it for you. Failing that - email or PM one of us and tell us the topic name and forum page it lives in. Cheers WW
ViS
If we let members delete their own posts, it doesn't give us enough control in the case of troublemakers who will post something to get a rise from someone else then delete their post after making the other member lose it Just delete the content, change the title to "please delete" and it will be gone straight away. There is usually a mod or admin online all the time anyway (even if you don't know we're there)
j.s
Just to be argumentative... What is the difference between a troublemaker deleting an inappropriate post compared to merely changing/deleting the content of it - isnt the end result still the same? Ducksta
Depends how the database/forum system is set up. But most likely, your right, and there is no difference, there should be a log, which would record all changes/deletions either way.
fiona
If the person could delete the post that would also mean they could also delete all the replies by other people to that post, wouldn't it? Not being able to delete, people might think more about what they write than if they could delete (unless they are the mods pet).
Serial-Cichlid
If there was an incident. An edited/changed post indicates a date/time when the troublemaker decided to make trouble. Someone could just report that post. Based on the date and time it would make the Administrators job easier to locate the contents of the original post off a backup of the database. But as Ducksta mentioned, it depends how the database/forum system is setup. Database backups and disaster recovery have been very important issues for companies of recent years so I can't see the troublemakers getting away with it. Depends on how hard the issue is pressed I guess.
Cichlids_au
Yep that’s right. If we make sure you can't delete and have no option as to the tag This post has been edited by Cichlids_au on Mar 31st 2004 @ 16:45 we can see who is causing the trouble and deal with it. We have had people post a flame and after others bite they would go in and edit the post to make it look like the person that got upset started it all. With it this way we know who did what and when.
