I finally got a low nitrite reading today. I have not been too worried as my research indicates that low nitrites are not toxic when there is a small amount of sodium chloride in the water. I have also been using prime to further detoxify and stability to get the filter going. The fish have been on minimal food so were glad to get a bigger feed today.

Basically if you have ammonia and nitrite do not panic and read the instructions on prime and use salt if your fish are tolerant.
